Chinese tech giant Tencent has entered the gaming realm with their launch of “DreamStar,” an interactive party game analysts predict could pose a significant threat to domestic competitor NetEase. DreamStar features players controlling cartoon characters through an obstacle course – directly competing against NetEase’s popular Egg Party that has enjoyed great success this year and contributed to an increase in netEase shares.

JPMorgan analysts noted that DreamStar could cause NetEase revenue to decline by 2-3%. As such, JPMorgan revised their NetEase forecasts accordingly; expecting a reduction of 4-5% per quarter over time.

Goldman Sachs estimates “Egg Party” could generate annual revenues between 7 billion yuan and 8 billion yuan annually, while analysts project “DreamStar” will earn 5 to 6 billion in its inaugural year, providing Tencent with an answer to “Egg Party’s” success.

NetEase recently saw its market capitalization soar past Meituan, making it China’s fourth-largest internet company and surpassing Meituan for the fourth spot on China’s Internet company list. Tencent, as the top internet company in China, continues to find hit gaming titles amid competition from NetEase and miHoYo – creators of “Genshin Impact.” Tencent recently released “Last Sentinel,” showing their continued efforts at maintaining dominance within gaming industry.

Tencent and NetEase’s “DreamStar” launch marks another chapter in their fierce competition to gain gamers’ loyalty in China’s ever-evolving gaming market. Fans can look forward to more innovative titles and features that enhance gaming experiences over time as this battle rages on.
