UOB Asset Management (Taiwan) Launches Taiwan’s First S-REIT Fund to Help Retail Investors Seek Income Growth amid Low Interest Rate Environment

Bank’s customised keyboard, UOB MyKey, enables in-app peer-to-peer fund transfers

United Overseas Bank Limited (UOB) has enabled its customers to be the first in Singapore to pay and to be paid via PayNow on their social messaging apps. Such peer-topeer fund transfers have been made possible with the launch of UOB MyKey – the Bank’s mobile keyboard for Android smartphones.

UOB MyKey is an extension of the Bank’s mobile banking app, UOB Mighty. Once UOB MyKey has been set as the default keyboard, it can be used in any social messaging app, such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, to make PayNow payments. PayNow enables people to transfer money through their bank’s mobile or internet banking service to a registered recipient with just their mobile number, NRIC or FIN.

Ms Jacquelyn Tan, Head of Personal Financial Services Singapore, UOB, said that seven in 10 Singaporeans today use social messaging apps for a host of purposes. With UOB MyKey, the door is now open for customers to add PayNow transactions to the list of things that they could do on these apps.

“UOB MyKey makes it effortless for our customers to transfer funds as they only need to tap on the UOB logo on the smart keyboard to access PayNow. As UOB MyKey is also built within our UOB Mighty infrastructure and shares the same security standards, our customers are able to make these funds transfers safely and conveniently,” Ms Tan said.

With more people shopping on their mobile phones, the Bank has also made UOB MyKey compatible with well-known e-commerce mobile apps such as Carousell, a mobile classifieds marketplace for new and secondhand items. UOB MyKey makes it all the more convenient for the Bank’s customers to pay for what they want on Carousell or similar e-marketplaces, as they do not need to leave the app to transfer money to the seller. This enables sellers to receive payment almost instantly and buyers to complete their purchases faster.

Ms Winnie Khoo, General Manager for Carousell Singapore said, “PayNow, led by the Association of Banks in Singapore is a timely initiative making it easier for Singaporeans to transfer funds. UOB’s MyKey furthers the convenience of PayNow to enable secure and immediate transactions between buyers and sellers chatting in our app.”
