THAI Signs GE OnPoint Solution Agreement for GE90 Engine Fleet Maintenance

EVENDALE, OH — Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) signed a 12-year OnPoint solution agreement for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of the airline’s GE90-115B engines that power its 14 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The OnPoint solution agreement will enable THAI to have the highest quality services at a predictable cost.

“With an engine manufacturer taking care of maintenance, THAI feels ensured of receiving the highest quality designed workscopes as well as supplied parts to always keep the engines in the best operating configurations and efficiency leading to smooth aircraft operation,” said Chalermpon Intarawong, THAI executive vice president, Technical Department.

“This agreement demonstrates the confidence THAI has with GE Aviation and our MRO offerings,” said Kevin McAllister, president and CEO of GE Aviation’s Services organization. “We look forward to maintaining and supporting THAI’s GE90 engine fleet so they can focus on their customers.”

OnPoint solutions are customized service agreements tailored to the operational needs of each customer for any size fleet. These agreements help lower the customers’ cost of ownership and maximize the use of their assets. Backed by GE’s global support network, OnPoint services may include overhaul, on wing support, new and used-serviceable parts, component repair, technology upgrades, engine leasing, integrated systems support and diagnostics and integrated systems.

The GE90 engine family powers the all Boeing 777 models and is the exclusive powerplant on the 777-300ER, -200LR, and Freighter aircraft. The GE90 engine features several technology firsts, including carbon fiber composite front fan blades, the world’s largest front fan at 128 inches in diameter and the world-record setting thrust of 127,900 pounds during certification testing. The GE90-115B engine includes a three-dimensional aerodynamic compressor and wide-chord, swept composite fan blades for greater efficiency. The dual annular combustor emits no more than 40 percent of the hydrocarbons allowed by international standards. In addition, today’s GE90-115B engines have been enhanced to reduce fuel burn by 3.6 percent from the 2000 launch specifications.

The GE90 engine provides the foundation for the new GE9X engine that will power the Boeing 777X aircraft. The GE9X engine will be in the 100,000 pound thrust class and features a 134-inch diameter composite fan case and 16 composite fan blades; a next-generation 27:1 pressure-ratio 11-stage high-pressure compressor; a third-generation TAPS III combustor for high efficiency and low emissions; and CMC material in the combustor and turbine.

THAI is the flag carrier airline of Thailand and flies to 72 destinations in 34 countries with a fleet of more than 90 aircraft. Headquartered in Bangkok, THAI is a founding member of the Star Alliance.
