Credit Suisse Research Institute launches a Student Academy

Credit Suisse

The Credit Suisse Research Institute is launching a global, virtual Student Academy and is inviting young people to enter a global ideas contest in which they will have the opportunity to present their assessment of major policy decisions by central banks and the impacts of those decisions.

Students and graduates from around the world are being invited to assess the consequences of current central bank policies and to present their ideas in the form of  short videos or essays over the next six weeks. The contest will run as part of the new virtual Student Academy launched by the Credit Suisse Research Institute (CSRI). The point of view of these young adults is particularly interesting since the decisions of central banks will have a significant impact on future generations.

The ideas presented in the most impressive submission will be developed further and published with the support of the CSRI. Furthermore, the author of the winning entry will be invited to exclusive CSRI events in London and will also receive an invitation to the next World Economic Forum in Davos. The authors of the top 20 entries will be invited to join the “Next Generation Thinkers” network of the CSRI Academy and will receive support.

The CSRI, the Credit Suisse think tank established in 2008, wants to motivate young people to reflect on the long-term impact of current economic and political decisions, including monetary policy: “Young people tend to be less interested in issues such as monetary policy. Our aim is to raise important future questions and give students food for thought,” stated Lucia Waldner, the new Head of the CSRI, who helped create the new Student Academy being launched.

Urs Rohner, Chairman of the CSRI and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Credit Suisse Group commented: “It is important to encourage young people to think about today’s key trends. The changed role of monetary policy is a significant development and we look forward to incorporating the opinions of the younger generation into our discussions.”

The sponsors of the academy are the CSRI and Project Firefly, a leading global student platform. A panel of experts made up of renowned scientists and representatives of the CSRI, will evaluate the analyses that are submitted. The best videos will be available to view on the Credit Suisse YouTube channel.

The deadline for the submission of essays and video presentations is September 25, 2016.
