SEAT Electrifies its Large SUV as the Tarraco e-HYBRID Enters Production

SEAT-Tarraco-e-HYBRID
  • SEAT Tarraco e-HYBRID is the 3rd electrified model in the brand’s range, joining the SEAT Leon e-HYBRID – available in both 5-door and Sportstourer – and the SEAT Mii electric
  • The brand’s large SUV mates a TSI engine and an electric motor to offer 245PS (180kW) of power and 400Nm of torque combined
  • Thanks to its 13kWh battery pack, the SEAT Tarraco e-HYBRID delivers an all-electric range of up to 49km in WLTP (58km in NEDC) and only emits between 37 and 46.4g/km of CO2 (WLTP)
  • The next step in SEAT’s electrification plan will be launched into the market in the first quarter of 2021

SEAT continues to expand its range of electrified vehicles, as the SEAT Tarraco e-HYBRID enters production this week.  The plug-in hybrid version of the brand’s flagship delivers a maximum power of 245PS (180kW), making it the most powerful Tarraco produced to date. But it not only delivers power, thanks its 13kWh lithium-ion battery back, it can also travel for up to 49km (58km in NEDC) in all-electric mode. And when using both electric and petrol engines, the SEAT Tarraco e-HYBRID can reach up to 730km.

The brand already delivers the SEAT Mii electric and SEAT Leon e-HYBRID – available in both 5-door and Sportstourer variants. The introduction of the SEAT Tarraco e-HYBRID brings the benefits of electrification – performance and efficiency – to the SUV segment for SEAT, while adding a third pillar to the brand’s electrified range.

“SEAT continues its electrified offensive as it transforms its offering to a more sustainable future, with the introduction of its 3rd electrified model: the SEAT Tarraco e-HYBRID,” said Wayne Griffiths, President of SEAT. “The electrification of our large SUV takes plug-in hybrids to a new segment, shows our commitment to the technology while taking us a step closer to our aim of making electric available to all.”

245PS. All-electric range of up to 49km in WLTP. 730km overall range.

The SEAT Tarraco e-HYBRID’s plug-in hybrid system mates a 1.4 litre TSI 150PS (110kW) petrol engine, 115PS (85kW) electric motor, 13kWh lithium-ion battery pack and six-speed DSG transmission; the setup offers 245PS (180kW) of power and 400Nm of torque.

The SEAT Tarraco e-HYBRID allows to drive in electric only mode, giving a range of up to 49km in WLTP (58km in NEDC), perfect for increased efficiency, or to travel around city streets where air quality regulations are stricter. And when there is the necessity of driving for longer distance, the SEAT Tarraco e-HYBRID offers the possibility to use both electric and petrol engines, in order reach around 730km without refuelling.

The SEAT Tarraco e-HYBRID always starts in all-electric mode (when the battery is sufficiently charged). The drive switches to Hybrid mode if the energy capability of the battery drops below a certain level or if the speed rises above 140 km/h. In Hybrid mode, the driver has the possibility of maintaining the status of charge, increasing it or reducing it to a well-defined level.

In addition to the different plug-in hybrid modes (e-Mode, Automatic Hybrid or Manual Hybrid), accessible and configurable via the infotainment system, the SEAT Tarraco e-HYBRID features two specific buttons – e-Mode and s-Boost – located next to the newly designed and illuminated gear knob.

The direct access to the e-Mode makes it easy to drive into an urban destination area under electric power and with zero emissions; while the s-Boost button delivers a sportier driving experience, with increased performance.

Because of its combined electric-combustion powertrain, CO2 emissions are between 37-46.4g/km while it uses between 1.6 – 2.0 litres of fuel to travel 100km according to the WLTP official test cycle.

And when the battery is running low, the powertrain switches back to hybrid mode. Once you’re near a power source, the battery can be plugged in and replenished in as little as 3 hours and a half using a 3.6kW charger (Wallbox), or little less than 5 hours using a 2.3kW charger.

The SEAT Tarraco e-HYBRID is fully connected with in-car and out-car connectivity. The electrified powertrain gives even more control once out of the vehicle; through the SEAT Connect app, users can access their vehicle’s data remotely, manage the charging process and control the remote climatization from afar.

The SEAT Tarraco e-HYBRID will be available as a 5-seats version, in Xcellence and FR trims, adding yet another way for customers to match the vehicle more specifically to their needs.

Designed and developed in Barcelona, at SEAT’s headquarters in Martorell, the SEAT Tarraco e-HYBRID enters production this week in Wolfsburg.

SEAT’s electrification goes beyond the conventional

The SEAT Tarraco e-HYBRID, SEAT Leon e-HYBRID and SEAT Mii electric are just the beginning. The company has also created SEAT MÓ, the new urban mobility brand, which further contributes the SEAT MÓ eScooter 125, a 100% electric scooter, and two eKickScooter versions – SEAT MÓ eKickScooter 25 and SEAT MÓ eKickScooter 65 – to the product portfolio.

SEAT has also set up the electromobility Learning Center (eLC), the company’s new electromobility training centre, where more than 15,000 employees are being trained in new hybrid and electric technologies. It’s also begun construction on the new Test Center Energy, its own battery laboratory that will enable vehicles, cell modules and battery groups to be tested.

And after signing a strategic collaboration agreement last July with Iberdrola and Volkswagen Group Spain Distribution, SEAT continues to promote the roll-out of electric mobility in the country and foster the use of renewable energies.
