HP Debuts Affordable, Cloud-ready Thin Client with Broad Operating System Support

Palo Alto, Calif., May 26, 2015 – HP today announced the HP t420, an affordable, cloud-ready thin client for task workers in call center, desktop-as-a-service, and remote kiosk environments. The new HP thin client offers a choice of essential operating system1, including Linux®-based HP Smart Zero Core and HP ThinPro, and Windows Embedded 7.

The HP t420 is ideal for businesses looking to stay under budget and on task with a reliable solution that doesn’t take up a lot of space or make a lot of noise. All models come with value-added HP software at no additional cost, integrated browsers, plus support for Voice-over-IP with Microsoft Lync2 and Unified Communications tools.

Featuring flash memory storage and a fan-less design for ultra-quiet deployments, the HP t420’s approximate 5x7x1-inch size makes it easy to install in compact work spaces throughout the office. Setup, deployment and maintenance tasks are quick and easy with HP Device Manager or HP Smart Zero Services, software tools available exclusively for HP Thin Clients that let users track, manage and update entire install bases with just a few clicks.

“In an era where companies are grappling with issues such as global collaboration, privacy regulations and cost control, they need technology that can bring it all together seamlessly,” said Jeff Groudan, worldwide director, Product Management, Thin Clients, HP. “Our new t420 is a great value-priced, cloud-ready thin client that’s reliable and easy to use.”

  • Attaches to the back of an HP ProDisplay, or bundles with a display and HP Integrated Work Center Stand to create an all-in-one footprint that keeps I/O ports front and center.3
  • Reduces power consumption and helps lower costs with an intelligent, energy-efficient, low-halogen4 design that’s ENERGY STAR® certified and EPEAT® Gold registered.5
  • Offers Gigabit Ethernet for wired-in connectivity when Wi-Fi isn’t an option, and support for 802.11n Wi-Fi.6,7
  • Supports Microsoft Lync productivity tools like instant messaging, desktop sharing, and Voice-over-IP for Internet-based calling.
