eBay Goes Big on Exports with International Shipping

Exports

eBay’s ambitious expansion and streamlining of US exports is underway with the introduction of eBay International Shipping (eIS). eIS transforms eBay’s international shipping offering by making cross-border shipping as straightforward as domestic, dramatically opening up global access to eBay’s US inventory.

The new service removes the complexities and costs associated with international shipping — reducing fees, handling customs and compliance, managing tracking, and even intermediating returns — at no extra cost to sellers.

In 2022, cross-border trade drove roughly one-fifth of eBay GMV, despite less than half of its inventory in the big three markets being eligible for export. Since eBay International Shipping’s official launch in fall of 2022, more than 1.5M sellers have been migrated to eIS and customer satisfaction is at 80%, with some businesses even directing international customers exclusively to their eBay stores.

“eBay is passionate about giving people the resources they need to connect with the things they love — no matter what country or category,” said Adam Ireland, VP and GM, eBay US. “With eBay International Shipping, we’re making global connections even more accessible, affordable, and profitable, significantly increasing the volume of items available to shoppers in 200+ countries, and making it even easier for our sellers to tap a universe of new business opportunities.”

Building on this strategic investment to grow export capabilities by easing the complexities of international sales and purchases, eIS is slated to succeed eBay’s two legacy international shipping platforms — Global Shipping Program (GSP) and eBay International Standard Delivery (eISD) — by July 1, 2023.
