Burberry Reveals Its Spring/Summer 2022 Campaign

Burberry

‘The Spring/Summer 2022 menswear and womenswear shows had this visceral energy that was contrasted with really beautiful soundscapes. I wanted to continue this dialogue in the campaign, a flicking between realities, contrasting Mert and Marcus’ pure youthful energy with Chris Rhodes’ raw youthful spirit. As we come out of lockdowns around the world, I wanted this campaign to make people feel something, free to dream, free to feel youthful and alive again. It is a beautiful dance, very raw energy that’s powerful and full of life. Like an awakening.’

Riccardo Tisci, Chief Creative Officer

Burberry reveals its Spring/Summer 2022 campaign, exploring the power of self-expression.

Embodying the house’s code of duality, the menswear and womenswear collections are captured from multiple perspectives. Individual artistic interpretations forge a bridge between two photographers. Raw studio shots by Mert and Marcus are contrasted with intimate, candid shots by photographer Chris Rhodes, taken backstage at the Spring/Summer 2022 presentations. The differing perceptions allow the collections to transfigure in their different viewpoints.

Burberry’s Spring/Summer 2022 collections by Riccardo Tisci, further explore the idea of identity with narratives around femininity and masculinity, emphasising fluidity and the power of self-expression. The collections challenge the traditional, iconic silhouettes that are deconstructed and rebuilt in strong and striking silhouettes, and the collections brim with a sense of youthful and sensual energy.

The campaign plays on the collection’s themes, capturing a union of models together in harmony and focusing on bold shapes and details. An embodiment of a confident attitude – freedom of expression, strength, and power.

About the Spring/Summer 2022 womenswear collection

Burberry Womenswear

Animal Instinct, Riccardo Tisci’s Spring/Summer 2022 womenswear collection for Burberry represents freedom of imagination and endless realities. The iconic Burberry trench coat is deconstructed and rebuilt in strong and striking silhouettes that experiment and play with volume. Styles in a blend of classic Burberry gabardine and textural linen cotton are cropped at the back to reveal swimsuits animated with abstract prints. A sense of fluidity is brought to the trench and car coat through fluted and oversized sleeves on collarless and hooded shapes, plus capelets that are perforated or trimmed with leather – reinvigorating the traditional with a twist of youthful energy. A kaleidoscope of geometric and experimental abstract prints – evoking the flowing forms of camouflage – and the Universal Passport graphic adorns dresses and shirts, layered under printed sheer or mesh tops to create new harmonies of the pattern.

The Olympia bag evolves. A signature style for the house, it has a crescent curve and an athletic aura which is developed for this season in a softer shape in leather, with a circular strap. The Rhombi bag is introduced, a new ellipse-shaped shoulder bag inspired by the abstract curved prints in the collection. The structured shape is sculpted to the body and features a lightly padded strap with oversized clasp detail.

About the Autumn/Winter 2021 menswear collection

Burberry Menswear Collection

Universal Passport, Riccardo Tisci’s Spring/Summer 2022 menswear collection for Burberry melds the feelings of freedom and togetherness in an exploration of the forces that connect and inspire us – those which make us feel alive. Creating a moment of youthful positivity, the presentation gracefully centres on the power of the spiritual and the energy of music and movement.

In an unflinchingly honest representation of freedom of expression, the collection challenges conventional codes with assured fluidity. The looks brim with youthful experimentation and sensuality expressed through rebellious faux-piercing accessories and black leather halterneck vests, coats, and briefs. Tailoring and outerwear are similarly readdressed with sleeveless non-conforming silhouettes and abstract prints. The collection’s name, Universal Passport, can be seen emblazoned across sleeveless mesh T-shirts and cotton shirts, affirming the presentation’s message of connectivity and exploration.
